Ronseal Garden Paint will colour and protect all types of garden wood including sheds, fences, pergolas, trellis and more. It can also be used on brick, terracotta and metal surfaces. Please Note: This product is not suitable for wooden surfaces that have been treated with products containing oil, wax or silicon, unless they have been allowed to weather and degreased with methylated spirit.

It is also not suitable for use on plastics, cast iron or areas subjected to foot traffic, such as decking boards. It should also not be used on walls prone to damp. Waterproofs and protects your wood. Coverage 12 metres sq per litre.

Drying time: Rainproof in 1 hour. Allow 4 hours between coats. To get the best possible colour and protection apply 3 coats.

If your painting a light colour over a darker colour you may need to use more coats. Can be applied to wood, brick, teracotta, metal, stone (don't use on areas you'll walk on). Whatever you decide to paint will be protected from the weather in just 1 hour. Please Note: Do not apply this paint on decking surfaces.

Ensure all surfaces to be painted are clean, dry and free from dirt, debris or any other surface contaminants. New softwoods, including garden furniture, can be painted straight away as long as they do not have a previous wax, oil or silicone finish.

Allow to weather for 6 weeks. Lightly sand to remove surface fibres and splinters.

Wipe the wood over with a lint-free cloth dampened with methylated spirit. Oily hardwoods should be painted soon after being wiped down with meths.

Old coating type finishes such as paints, varnishes and varnish type stains must be fully removed by sanding or with a product stripper / remover prior to painting. Remove all traces of mould, algae and fungi with a stiff brush or scraper. Treat areas affected by mould, algae and fungi with a mould and mildew remover. Wood can be cleaned with Ronseal Garden Cleaner prior to painting, if required. Any instances of wet rot can be treated with Ronseal Wet Rot Wood Hardener, and any existing woodworm eradicated with Ronseal Woodworm Killer. Any decayed wood should be removed and replaced with clean, sound timber.

Make good any holes or minor imperfections with Ronseal High Performance Wood Filler or Ronseal Multi Purpose Wood Filler. Treat wood with a suitable wax, oil and silicon-free exterior wood preservative, if required. Where possible, preserve all sides including end grain prior to application of Ronseal Garden Paint. Ensure that the wood is fully dry before painting. For best results, prime all wooden surfaces with Ronseal All Surface Primer and Undercoat - Exterior before applying Ronseal Garden Paint.

Terracotta pots and other surfaces may need a good sanding / wire-brushing as they are often treated or glazed to protect them from rain and frost damage. These treatments will reduce adhesion of the paint to the surface. Weathered terracotta needs to be water bead tested. If the water beads on the surface, sanding will be required to remove the surface coating before painting.

If the water soaks in to the Terracotta, then the paint can be applied directly. Metal needs a suitable primer before painting with Ronseal Garden Paint. Use grey primer under darker colours, and white primer under lighter colours. Simply remove any dust or loose material with a stiff brush and give it a good wipe before painting. Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and final finish.

Do not apply in wet conditions or if rain, frost or snow is likely before the paint is dry. Stir thoroughly before and periodically during application to ensure a consistent finish. Apply a thin, even film of Ronseal Garden Paint to the substrate with a synthetic brush (such as the Ronseal Fence Life Brush), microfibre roller or other suitable applicator. If applying to wood, work the paint into the surface of the wood grain.

Allow the first coat to dry for 4 hours. Apply a second and third coat as above. Please Note: If painting wooden garden furniture, allow 2 to 3 days before using or adding cushions and other soft furnishings. Regular CleaningWooden surfaces painted with Ronseal Garden Paint can be wiped clean with a damp, lint-free cloth and cleaned at regular intervals with Ronseal Garden Cleaner.

If the finish becomes worn or tired looking over time, simply apply a fresh coat of Garden Paint, following the Preparation and Application instructions above.
